The Fables of Jean de la Fontaine translated into English verse by Edward Marsh

$200.00

The Fables of Jean de la Fontaine translated into English verse by Edward Marsh, with twenty-four engravings on copper by Stephen Gooden, published in 1931. Limited to 525 copies, this being number 512, and signed by both the translator and illustrator. The edition features 26 finely executed copper engravings, complementing Marsh’s elegant verse rendering of La Fontaine’s classic moral tales. A beautifully produced two-volume set, bound in vellum. Light shelfwear to corners and ends. A small, inconsequential margin stain appears on the front endsheet and pastedown margin, which also bears a lengthy gift inscription and numerous signatures from those who presented the set as a gift in 1933.
