English Fairy and Other Folk Tales by Edwin Sidney Hartland, published in 1890. Sections Include: Nursery Tales, Sagas, Giants, Fairies, The Piskies in the Cellar, The Green Children, The Fairy’s Midwife, The Boggart, The Devil and Other Goblins, The Demon Tregeagle, Witchcraft, The Witch and the Toad, The Hand of Glory, Ghosts, Drolls, etc. etc. Original owner had been the poetry scholar and poet Louis Du Pont Syle (1857-1903), and a lengthy original signed poem of his covers both sides of the front endsheet. There’s also a pencilled note on the front pastedown that the book had also been the personal copy of Charles Mills an English professor at UC Berkeley who was also a poetry scholar and writer. Light shelfwear to corners and ends.
