Irish Fairy Tales by James Stephens
$3,500.00
Irish Fairy Tales by James Stephens and illustrated by Arthur Rackham, published in 1920. First Edition. A very rare edition signed by the artist Arthur Rackham and includes a rare handbill for the authors lecture to promote the book, possibly the only one in existence. The English illustrator Arthur Rackham provided interior artwork, including numerous black and white illustrations and sixteen color plates. The stories are set in a wooded, Medieval Ireland filled with larger-than-life hunters, warriors, kings, and fairies. Many stories concern the Fianna and their captain, Fionn mac Uail, from the Fenian Cycle of Irish mythology. Hardcover in cream with vellum spine, the paper covered boards are notorious for staining, very small corner stain and light foxing, light foxing to endsheet. Interior is pristine, a superb copy.
