The Religion of Ancient Egypt by A.H. Sayce, Professor of Assyriology Oxford, published in 1913. This was the personal copy of Edward J. Byrne, a professor of Scripture at St. Bernards Seminary in 1906 until his death in 1952. Byrne was known for his knowledge of ancient cultures and participated in archeological digs in the Middle East. He later donated the book to the St. Bernards Seminary Library and it has their bookplate within as well as some dates in pen on the title page. Sections Include: Egyptian Religion, The Imperishable Part of Man and the Other World, The Sun-God and the Ennead, Animal Worship, The Gods of Egypt, Osiris and Osirian Faith, The Sacred Books, The Place of Egyptian Religion in the History of Theology, etc. etc. Hardcover in crimson red with gilt lettering on spine and a small discolored spot on board. Very light shelfwear.
