(Two Volume Set) Phantasms of the Living by Edmund Gurney, Frederick W.H. Myers, and Frank Podmore, published in 1886. Documents over 700 case studies of alleged paranormal phenomena, with the aim of providing scientific evidence for psychic abilities like thought-transference, or telepathy. The term “phantasms of the living” referred to the idea that these apparitions were not ghosts of the dead, but rather telepathic hallucinations sent by a living person, often during a moment of crisis. The authors proposed that psychic thought-transference was the mechanism behind these experiences, viewing them as evidence of a hidden human ability. Both volumes hardcover with gilt lettering. Shelfwear to corners and ends, spine heads bumped and chipped, a few minor holes in spine cloth, but the binding is holding well with no loose or missing pages. Would recommend careful handling due to the age and condition.
